Cala Ratjada information
Cala Ratjada is situated in the extreme North East corner of Majorca, on a rocky coastline within easy reach of several beatiful beaches. As most of the other resorts in Mallorca, before the onset of tourism in the 1960's, the original village of Cala Ratjada was a quiet little fishing port.
It's name literally translates as "The Bay of Rays". The original harbour still exists, but today it is more likely to be the home of expensive private cruisers than the fishing boats of times gone by.
Although it is a well established resort , it is not heavily visited and many parts remain "undiscovered" by the largest majority of tourists which are mainly French.
One of the features of this part of Mallorca is the dramatic jagged coastline and numerous sandy coves that haven been rewarded many times with the prestigious Blue Flag by the European Union for their cleanliness, facilities and water quality.
The main town beach called "Son Moll", might get crowded over the summer period. Fortunately there are many more private beaches if you head up north, like Cala Guya, Cala Agulla or Cala Mesquida.
Shopping facilities are quite good, especially clothes and shoes. Cala Ratjada offers various sporting facilities including golf, cycling and diving.
When writing about Cala Ratjada one must mention the lighthouse that was built in 1861. The view from the lighthouse is quite exceptional.
Near by places that someone should visit include : Cape Balear S.L, Caves of Arta, Capdepera Market, Golf Capdepera e.t.c.
